Coachella Fashion

Coachella. The music festival that makes everyone who doesn’t attend severely envious of the filtered Instagram pictures and live twitter updates. Coachella seems like the greatest time ever. It takes place in the Indio desert in California so desert storms often occur, but that shouldn’t deter you from going. The lineup for this year includes headliners Guns n Roses, Calvin Harris and LCD Soundsystem. Some other big names in music performing are Ellie Goulding, Halsey, 1975, Jack U, Sia, Ice Cube, and Major Lazer.

This three day music extravaganza involves more than just a concert. The focus of this festival is supposed to be the music but it is largely the fashion. Celebrities galore go to the VIP area and walk into the general area just to have their outfit candidly admired by millions. Even regular festival goers plan their outfits months before.

The outfits at Coachella have a similar theme: bohemien. This style includes clothing adorned with ruffles, flowy skirts, floral dresses, earth tones, sandals, fringe lace, and wide legged pants. The vibe is airy, light, angelic, and feminine.  However, edgy and risky styles are also present.

Here are some examples of items you will definitely see worn at Coachella. One of Snapchat’s new filters: a flower crown is a good choice that makes any person seem approachable and sends off positive vibes.

Bold sunglasses and floppy hats are popular too.

While “boho chic” is a fabulous style choice, sometimes people make the wrong fashion decision and appropriate another culture. Some offenders include Selena Gomez and Vanessa Hudgens. In 2014, Vanessa Hudgens chose to wear a Native American headdress as an accessory.

This cultural item is labeled as a “hipster headdress”. Wearing another culture’s fashion as a costume and simply calling it “hipster” is disrespectful and unacceptable. Thankfully, at this year’s Coachella, celebrities chose to dress conscious of other people’s culture.

Here is some fashion inspiration to take away from this year’s Coachella. Kylie Jenner’s new hair color was a topic of hot discussion. She sported peach and rainbow hair, just in time for summer.

Clothes made out of denim will always be in style. There were many denim overalls, shorts, and dresses. Rompers are an essential piece for summer. They are easy to wear and come in a variety of patterns. Chokers and large silver necklaces were the chosen accessory.

Even if you were among the large group of people unable to attend Coachella this year, at least you’ll know what to wear to look like you did.
