Based on an anonymous poll conducted of 100 Stone Ridge student respondents, Bernie Sanders and John Kasich should be running in the 2016 election as candidates for the Democratic and Republican Party, respectively. Interestingly enough, the state of Maryland as a whole believes otherwise–according to RealClearPolitics polls, Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump should be the opposing candidates in this election.
On the other hand, respondents were pretty accurate at predicting the results at Stone Ridge. Sanders and Kasich were both predicted to be the most popular candidates of both parties among Stone Ridge students.
Issues Stone Ridge students consider most important in this election include foreign policy/national defense (27%), wealth inequality (17%), racial justice (17%), immigration/border control (14%), environmental health (11%), women’s rights (5%), and healthcare (3%).
Stone Ridge students are relatively evenly divided between voting for the same candidate as their parents (39%), voting within the same party as their parents (35%), and voting for a different party and candidate (26%). While the largest group of us still vote in sync with our parents, as strong, independent women, we’re clearly not afraid to spread out wings and leave our family’s political views behind!
