Though students often complain about the different stresses and struggles that come with being a student, student discounts are a great benefit that students can take advantage of with just their school ID.
Some high school students may hold jobs of their own, but others rely on the money, often cash, that their parents provide them. In this situation, even a 10 or 15 percent discount on clothes, food, or technology can come in handy.
The opportunities are much broader than one may think, possibly because many stores or companies do not publicize the discounts that they accept.
Different stores provide different discounts. In the clothing industry, stores such as Ann Taylor, Banana Republic, H&M, Juicy Couture, Kate Spade, Madewell, and J.Crew provide a 15 percent discount to students showing their student ID.
Other stores such as South Moon Under, Charlotte Russe, Steve Madden, Toms and Topshop all offer a 10 percent discount with a student ID.
Topshop, however, along with stores such as PacSun and Hunter Boots, requires a passcode for a discount when shopping online. It is easy to generate the passcode by entering in high school information onto a website called Student Beans, whose link is found on the websites of the stores listed above.
It is also easy to use a student ID for discounts when buying food. Many fast food restaurants, including Subway and Buffalo Wild Wings, offer a 10 percent discount. In addition, both Chick-fil-A and Chipotle offer a free drink with the purchase of a meal when presented with a student ID.
It is important to keep in mind, however, that not all restaurants within a chain will oblige; it often depends on the location itself.
As a student, carrying a school ID is always a good idea for safety and security reasons, but the financial benefits are something that should not be overlooked.
