D.C. is an amazing city filled with a rich history, and the sports teams add even more charm.
The Capitals, D.C.’s hockey team, took home the Stanley Cup this year. This was monumental because it was their first time ever winning the Stanley Cup. D.C has gone through many tough years, in all sports, of not winning any championships. Although D.C. teams are very talented, they can never seem to take it home. This all changed this year after the Stanley Cup victory.
Mr. Malcolm McCluskey, Head of the Upper School, says he didn’t grow up with a hockey team, so he’s now claimed the Caps as his own.
“I like being a part of something bigger than myself,” Mr. McCluskey said. “It’s brought an electricity to the city. I was at the arena when they won the cup, and I was hugging strangers like they were my best friends.” This is the D.C spirit we like to see!

Caroline Tangang ‘19 loves the Washington Wizards, D.C.’s basketball team. Tangang says she was raised to be a Wizards fan, she’s been going to games since the age of two. Her family takes immense pride in being Wizards fans.
“I like them because they’re our team,” said Tangang. “Even though they haven’t had a great season in recent years, I would never think of supporting another team.”
Suzanna Canton ‘19 is a huge fan of the Nationals, the D.C. baseball team. Canton started loving the Nats in 6th grade when her dad started taking her to games.
“My favorite part of being a Nationals fan is watching them win and seeing all their fans erupt with happiness,” said Canton. Canton’s favorite player is Bryce Harper. She says that she’s loved him and watching him play since she first starting watching the Nationals.
“He brought such a good vibe to the team, and he really brought energy to the Nationals and their fans,” said Canton. Harper is rumored to be leaving the Nat’s and going to the Yankee’s. It’s a sore subject for some of us.
There seems to be a common theme when talking about D.C sports teams: pride. Our city’s sports teams unite us all to be a family. Here’s to the upcoming seasons! Go D.C!
